If you are asked to find an equation for a line, immediately write down
y = m
x + b because that's where you are headed. Sometimes you are given a point and a slope; other times you are given two points. That's all the information you need.
If you are given a graph and need to read points, make sure you are 100% accurate when you read the coordinates. Sometimes, if the graph is very clear, you can read the y-intercept and count off the slope, like you did last night.
Check out this
website. It explains point-slope form (NOT slope-intercept form) for the equation of a line. That's what tonight's homework is about. The website uses (
x sub 1,
y sub 1) instead of (
h,
k) for the given point.
