Properties Are Important!

You need to copy all the properties in Lesson 2-7 into your Journal. All properties should be together on one page in the Journal or on index cards held together with a rubber band.

You need to have Lesson 2-7, Covering , completed for Thursday.

More Simplifying using Distributive Property

Equivalence

There are four ways to prove two expressions equivalent. Can you name them?

AMC-8 Practice

Practice taking the AMC 8. The copy you have is the same one you took last year. You need to time yourself for 40 minutes. Good luck!

Opposites Properties

On Tuesday, you will have a quiz on Lessons 2-1 through 2-4. Be sure you study.

In addition, be sure you can simplify the expressions on the Pizzazz paper efficiently.

You really did a good job using the Opposite of a Sum and Opposite of a Difference properties. Also, thanks for helping out with the bake sale at the last minute.

Be sure you have a way to keep track of all the algebraic propeties that you need to know.

Factoring & Combining Like Terms

Be very careful when you are combining like terms. Watch your operations. Addition and subtraction behave differently.

Welcome to an Exciting New School Year!

It's time for algebra and I am glad to be back teaching.

This year is a very important one for eighth graders. There will be visits to high schools, an overnight field trip to Gettysburg, and many high school applications to fill out. All this and algebra too!

Algebra 1 is a very important subject. Many people think algebra is boring and has no real use. They are wrong; math class this year will be very interesting. As long as homework is completed when assigned, each student shows up for class with all of his/her tools and materials, and questions are asked immediately, algebra should be a great experience.
